Schuchardt Seeks Injunction against State Employee for Alleged Election Interference

Knoxville, Tennessee, June 2, 2026 -- Elliott Schuchardt, a candidate for the Tennessee General Assembly, is seeking an injunction against a Tennessee state employee for allegedly filing intentionally-false statements in court.

Schuchardt is running for Tennessee House District 18, in Knox County.

Schuchardt has filed a lawsuit against Sandra Garrett, the chief lawyer at the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.  The case is filed in federal court in Nashville.

On May 26, Schuchardt asked the federal court for a preliminary injunction against Garrett.  In his motion, Schuchardt says that Garrett submitted a wide array of fabricated information about him to the Tennessee Supreme Court.  Schuchardt says that Garrett quoted “testimony” from an Anderson County judge, who did not appear in court or testify.  Garrett also cited “testimony” from other persons who did not appear in the case.

Schuchardt says that there is an appearance that Garrett is using her position with the State ethics board to interfere with elections.  Garrett and her predecessors at the Board have filed ethics complaints against nearly 60 political candidates.  Schuchardt says that this is a problem because a lawyer cannot run for certain offices – such as judge – if the lawyer is not in “good standing” with the ethics board.

Schuchardt complained about Garrett’s conduct to his State Representative, Elaine Davis.  Davis is the current representative in Tennessee House District 18.

For the past two legislative terms, Davis has served as the Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee of the General Assembly. In such position, Davis is responsible for monitoring Garrett’s conduct of the Board of Professional Responsibility.  Elaine Davis is also responsible for reviewing and commenting on the Board’s rules.

Schuchardt says that Davis has refused to conduct a serious investigation of the alleged misconduct at the State ethics board.  According to Schuchardt, “Elaine Davis keeps saying that she’ll look into it. But nothing ever happens.”  Schuchardt is therefore running against Davis in the upcoming primary election, to be held on August 6.

Schuchardt is running for office on other issues, as well.

Schuchardt is the author of America’s Achilles Heel:  How to Protect Your Family When America Loses the Reserve Currency. The book argues that America’s currency – the U.S. dollar – is being artificially sustained by the world’s oil markets.

Schuchardt says that the dollar could drop in value, if the world were to trade oil in a new currency.  He says that Tennessee needs to be aware of this risk, and prepare for the foreseeable consequences.  This includes higher prices for imported goods, such as a gasoline, food, and imported cars.
